One of the most popular preschooler's television shows is Barney & Friends. Barney is a large and goofy looking purple dinosaur. Barney teaches through his songs and optimistic attitude. One song example would be: "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family, with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too!"

In 1987 Sheryl Leach came up with the idea of a TV show, which would be appealing to her son and educational as well. Sheryl and a team she assembled created a series of videos starring Barney and the Backyard Gang. Barney was soon joined by Baby Bop and BJ plus a cousin named "Riff" who will teach kids about music.

Barney & Friends became highly successful after appearing on TV in 1992. Now it is popular in other countries.
There is a lot of criticism of Barney & Friends. Some feel that Barney is to happy and never deals with real life and doesn't teach children what to do when life isn't fair. Some adults feel Barney insults their intelligence and groan whenever they see it. However there are many parents who think Barney is cute and want their children to see something happy and cheerful. So parents must make their own decision on whether their child would benefit from Barney and Friends.

I am writing to you in behalf of your Heavenly Father. He is seeking you like a lost sheep. You remember the Bible story? It is about a shepherd who has 100 sheep. But when he brings the sheep home one night, one is missing. He then leaves the 99 sheep and goes out into the wilderness until he finds that lost sheep.
