Foxes, Wolves and Wild Dogs of the World

Even though there are 27 species of foxes around the world, the one most commonly known here in the United States is the red fox. Male foxes are known as dogs, tods or reynard. Females are called vixens, and the young kits, cubs or pups. A skulk is a group of foxes.

Foxes can live up to 10 years in captivity but in the wild with its harsh conditions it usually drops to 2-3 years. Foxes can be recognized by their pointed muzzles and bushy tails. They are smaller then wolves or coyotes, closer to the size of a cat.

The fox is a loner and you usually won't find more then one at a time unless you come upon some pups. It is rare to see a fox since they are so wary. I personally have seen only two in the last 10 years even though I take daily walks in the country. Foxes don't tame very easily. It took Russia 45 years to domesticate the Silver Fox.

Foxes feed on rodents, reptiles, insects, fruit and berries and most anything they can find or catch and can be found in cities and gardens. You may not even realize you have a fox living in your backyard until you happen to spot one from your window or come up with a missing chicken or lamb.

Dear Fox Fans,

I am writing to you in behalf of your Heavenly Father. He is seeking you like a lost sheep. You remember the Bible story? It is about a shepherd who has 100 sheep. But when he brings the sheep home one night, one is missing. He then leaves the 99 sheep and goes out into the wilderness until he finds that lost sheep.

In this parable the shepherd goes out to search for the one lost sheep-the very least that can be numbered. So if there had been but one lost soul, Christ would have died for that one. To read more click Lost Sheep
