The Piper (Cherokee) Arrow was introduced in 1967. This aircraft came with a constant speed propeller and retractable landing gear. It has an Lycominf O-360 engine with 180 horsepower. In 1969 the engine power was upgraded to 200 horsepower. The Piper Arrow came out at the same time Piper stopped producing the Cherokee 150 and 160.

The Piper Arrow IV resembled the other Piper aircraft with its "T" styled tail and in 1968 the Arrow's engine controls changed from push pull to levers and a third window was added giving it a modern look.

Piper Arrow's were built for personal use, flight training and air taxi. The cabin is unpressurized, single engine and the only way to climb into the low wing aircraft is to step on the wing. Not anything like a cushy jet but plenty good for the average pilot who wants to fly a small aircraft and get a feel of the elements.

My husband loves to fly so one day he decided to rent an airplane from the local airport. His favorite place to fly is above our area. He can peer down and see our home and check out the surrounding area. Our neighbor lives just a quarter of a mile up the road from us and had a large area of corn growing. The corn was probably close to six feet tall that day.

As he flew up and down our valley he just resist seeing how close he could get to the tops of that corn. So flying low he buzzed the corn while almost touching the tops. He did this a couple of times before tiring of the fun and went elsewhere.

Later that day or the next while talking to a friend, the friend started to tell him about some crazy guy who had flown his aircraft so dangerously close to the ground that he was sure the guy would crash. My husband kept a straight face and pretended to be interested and asked intelligent questions but he didn't let it out that he was that crazy pilot. I guess he didn't want the neighbor to know it was him that would do such a foolish stunt. However given the chance he probably would do it over again.

But when he brings the sheep home one night, one is missing. He then leaves the 99 sheep and goes out into the wilderness until he finds that lost sheep.
